趣闻
彩动胸龟的“髭状”肉突明显，使其面部类似“鲶鱼”。幼体颜色尤为鲜艳，常被作为观赏龟走私，但成体颜色会褪去。其腹甲与背甲之间具有动胸龟科特有的韧带结构，可部分闭合壳口。
形态特征
背甲最大 SCL 约 15 cm（雌性略大），呈长椭圆形，扁平。背甲颜色多变，从褐色到黑色，具黄色或橙色的放射状条纹及斑点。腹甲黄色，具黑色斑块，盾片间有清晰缝线。头部较小，吻部突出，下颌具髭状肉突。四肢灰褐色，蹼发达。
生态习性
栖息于流速缓慢的溪流、沼泽及积水池塘，常隐藏于落叶层或泥泞底部。夜行性，肉食性，以水生昆虫、螺类、小鱼及两栖类幼体为食。繁殖期在雨季初期，雌龟产卵于河岸沙堆，每窝 2-4 枚卵，孵化期约 60-80 天。
主要威胁与保护
主要威胁为栖息地丧失（农业开发、水污染）以及宠物贸易的非法采集。目前无专门保护措施，但在墨西哥被列入受保护物种名录。建议加强种群监测和栖息地保护。
自然分布与保护状态
分布于墨西哥南部、危地马拉及洪都拉斯的大西洋沿岸低地。IUCN 红色名录尚未正式评估，但因其分布范围较窄且栖息地破碎化，TFTSG 暂定为易危（VU）。
